Willie Peters believes Hull KR’s opposed training session with NRL giants North Queensland Cowboys in Las Vegas will provide a major boost for his players.
The Robins will head to the United States at the end of February for the blockbuster event at Allegiant Stadium, where they will face Leeds Rhinos as part of a rugby league triple-header.
As part of their overseas preparations, Hull KR have secured a joint training session with the Cowboys, who are set to take on Newcastle Knights in the entertainment capital of the world. Meanwhile, Canterbury Bulldogs will face St George Illawarra Dragons on American soil.
Head coach Peters says the opportunity to work alongside one of the NRL’s leading sides will be invaluable both on and off the field, helping to strengthen the growing partnership between the two clubs. Hull KR and North Queensland Cowboys announced their partnership last summer.
“We’ve obviously got a partnership with the Cowboys, and this is a great way to further enhance that, while also getting both teams ready for our games at the weekend,” Peters said of the opposed training session.
“It will be good for the players to have an opposed session against an NRL team, and I’m sure the relationship will grow from doing something like that.
“We’re having a Zoom meeting with the coaches over there, talking about best practice and how we can both improve and build those relationships for the future.
“It’s a partnership. As Paul Lakin previously said, we want to get a lot out of each other and help each other as best we can.”
