Push Square editor and resident gacha addict Sammy isn’t around to write about this one, so you’ll need to excuse our obvious lack of knowledge as we trawl through the latest press release for Arknights: Endfield.
In a nutshell, this highly anticipated RPG — which racked up frankly insane pre-registration numbers — is out now on PS5. Naturally, it’s free-to-play, with optional spending coming in the form of pulling for characters and upgrades and all that. Hey, we know that much at least!
The thing with Arknights, though, is that it has a focus on party-based combat, boasting a system that lets you call upon the special attacks of your comrades for big combo damage. Based on what we’ve seen, it’s all nice and fluid with some great animations.
Exploration is also a big factor, as you’ll be tasked with traversing large open world zones in search of quests and resources.
Said resources can then be used to fuel the game’s other defining trait: the design and construction of factory-like locations, which are yours to manage. Basically, they’re another way to keep you invested; we all know how addictive autonomous progression can be.
So, think you’ll be giving Arknights a shot? Are you a big gacha player? Keep your pulls to yourself in the comments section below.

Robert (or Rob if you’re lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played ’em all. A little too much, some might say.
