Everton are 10th in the Premier League, four points behind Merseyside rivals Liverpool, who are in fourth. They face Leeds at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday.

Garner joined United’s academy at the age of eight and rose through the youth ranks before breaking into the first team, where he made seven appearances.

He has become a key member of David Moyes’ midfield since the Scot returned to manage Everton for a second time in January last year.

So far this campaign, Garner is top of the league stats for combined tackles (64), interceptions (32) and key passes (27) with 123 in total.

“The manager has really trusted me and what he asks of me to do on a game day, it suits exactly how I play,” Garner said.

“He’s been really important since he’s come in.”
