Not all of Terence Crawford’s 41 professional wins have come without controversy, and when he beat Amir Khan in 2019, the outcome was disputed.

On September 13, Terence Crawford is scheduled to clash against Canelo Alvarez in one of the biggest boxing fights in recent years when they fight for the undisputed super middleweight title.

The biggest talking point regarding the fight is that it will be the inaugural event promoted by Dana White‘s TKO Boxing, following his monumental partnership with Turki Alalshikh.

And ahead of their huge clash, the anticipation has become palpable as the two clashed on stage earlier this year during a pre-fight press conference.

Both fighters are widely regarded as two of the pound-for-pound best fighters on the planet, however, both of their careers have involved some level of controversy.

After beating Jose Benavidez to retain his WBO welterweight title in 2018, Crawford was presented with several different challenges that could’ve come next for him.

However, after a lot of toing and froing, it was made official that Crawford would defend his title against British boxing legend and former world champion, Amir Khan.

The fight went on to take place on April 20, and within just two minutes of the opening round, it looked as though it would be an extremely long night for Khan who was knocked down within two minutes.

Near the end of the first round, it seemed inevitable that Khan was going to tumble down to the mat again but he was fortunately saved by the bell.

Although the former champion grew into the fight a little bit more in rounds two and three, he was still getting completely outboxed by Crawford, who looked certain to sail onto another title defense.

And then in round six, controversy struck when Crawford landed a huge low-blow on Khan which sent him retreating to the ropes.

Despite being given the adequate amount of time to recover from the low-blow, the referee waved the fight off after the doctor told him that Khan’s corner wanted the stoppage.

Because Khan’s corner called for the referee to stop the fight, the result went down as a technical knockout win and Crawford retained his WBO title.

Crawford accused Khan of ‘quitting’ following the fight

Following the result, the controversy continued after Khan denied quitting, claiming that he would’ve preferred to be knocked out than quit.

This didn’t sit well with Crawford who went on to publicly blast the former champion, saying at the post-fight press conference: “You didn’t quit? Tell the truth. So what happened? I’m asking what happened. You quit.”
