A brand new shop with a twist has opened in an Essex recycling centre. The new Re-use Shop has opened in Linford’s waste and recycling centre, near Stanford-le-Hope, with the aim of reducing waste and encouraging reuse within the community.
The shop is a community space where residents will be able to buy good quality items at low prices instead of the products ending up in landfill. Thurrock Council say thousands of usable items are thrown away simply because they are no longer needed, and tonnes of good quality items are found in skips at the recycling centre.
Small furniture, homeware and kitchen items, small electrical goods, books, toys and DIY materials are among those that will be sold at the shop. All items will be carefully checked to ensure they are safe and fit for re-use before being offered for sale.
Any money made from the items sold at the Re-use Shop will be reinvested back into paying for council services in the community. The shop is open Monday to Friday (8am to 4pm) and payment is by card only.
Cllr Victoria Holloway, Cabinet Member for Place and the Environment said: “This new Re-use Shop is part of our commitment to reducing waste and is a fantastic example of how we can reduce waste while delivering real benefits for our community. By giving items a second life, we’re cutting landfill, lowering carbon emissions and offering affordable goods to residents at the same time.”
