Stand Golf Club in Radcliffe has asked Bury Council to move its clubhouse from Ashbourne Grove to land to the east of Ringley Road, with the project part-funded by the creation of new homes.

The club says its existing facilities are in poor condition and are stopping it from generating a second form of income because community groups no longer want to use or hire it.

A newer and upgraded facility would be created on a different plot of land, which would have panoramic views of a reconfigured golf course.

If approved, the order of the holes would be moved so holes one and 18 are based outside the new clubhouse, and the club says the plans have been given support by members.

The project also proposes 45 homes – made up of two-to-four bedrooms – and a 60-bed retirement complex on-site.

The application was put forward to Bury Council on Tuesday, January 20.

In planning papers, the club said: “The proposal is to demolish the existing clubhouse on Site A and construct a new clubhouse on Site B, which is club-owned land outside the current course.

“To fund this, Site A and adjacent land near West View Grove will be redeveloped to provide 45 dwellings and a retirement living facility with 60 apartments, the minimum requirement to deliver the clubhouse while maintaining the area’s openness and character.

“The scheme offers a balanced range of homes to meet different needs and ages. It includes an extra care apartment building containing one and two-bedroom units and 45 two-to-four-bedroom houses.

“This mix supports individuals, couples, families and older residents. The retirement living apartments comprise 57 percent of the overall number of homes and will all be delivered as affordable housing.

“All homes are designed to the same quality to ensure a consistent standard and an integrated residential environment.”

It added: “Unfortunately, the declining condition of the clubhouse has led to a downward trajectory in these second income streams.

“Local clubs and community groups are increasingly unwilling to use the clubhouse for their activities, given its declining condition.”

The plans will be reviewed by Bury Council’s planning department at a later date.
