Concerns were raised after the rubbish was discovered at the household recycling bring site at Sainsbury’s on Kilgour Street.
Pictures taken at the scene by a member of the public show a number of discarded bags filled with rubbish, and cardboard left in front of the ‘cardboard and paper’ recycling bins.
On it’s website, Westmorland & Furness Council says that it will ‘deal with fly-tipping on publicly owned property, roads and paths’.
According to the member of the public, the amount of non-recyclable rubbish was also ‘disturbing’.
They said: “Absolutely disgusting again at the Sainsbury’s recycling point.
“The amount of non-recycling rubbish left at the entrance – is again, disturbing.
“I really don’t understand what goes through their heads when dumping this rubbish.”
The News & Star has contacted Westmorland & Furness Council for comment.
