Batting first, Afghanistan produced an error-riddled display that asked too much of Osman Sadat (61 off 107). The opener batted for 40 overs, but his top-order teammates all struck out, creating compounding amounts of pressure as their innings unfolded.

Faisal Khan fought for his 22 off 34 balls, but offered an honest assessment of his team’s batting performance post-game.

“(Sri Lanka) bowled very well, (there were) a few mistakes from our batters, so we didn’t (build) a partnership with Osman (Sadat),” Faisal said post-game.

“(Osman) played very well until the end, but unfortunately we did not bat very well.

“We are very disappointed (with) today’s match.”
