Leaving eggs out will help feed common garden visitors during their breeding season in February.

Foxes are among the most common wildlife in British gardens and are seen throughout the year.

The Fox Angels Foundation is run by a group of volunteers who help foxes in the UK and are sharing why it’s important to leave eggs out for foxes.

Why British households should leave eggs in their gardens

The charity is encouraging households to leave eggs, whether raw or cooked, throughout the year.

Leaving eggs out will help keep foxes fed and healthy throughout the year, but it’s not just eggs that you can leave out.

Fox Angels Foundation also suggests that turkey, chicken, and oily fish are excellent options.

The charity shares that oily fish is great as it is great for foxes’ coats, helping keep the animal safe.

Sharing what a fox’s ideal diet is, the foundation explains: “We understand that they will scavenge, so we see all too often people saying ‘oh they can eat anything they eat out of rubbish’ but that doesn’t mean it’s the ideal scenario.

“In the wild they have one of the broadest diets of our wild animals, they catch rabbits, rodents, birds, frogs, earthworms and will eat carrion.”

Fox Angels Foundation adds: “Their ideal diet is high in taurine which can be found in chicken especially the legs or liver, if they don’t have enough taurine in their diet, they are at risk of going blind or at risk of having seizures.”

It’s important to note that if you do plan to feed foxes, you may want neighbours’ approval, as not everyone is fond of the animal.
