Perry Ng of Cardiff City celebrates after scoring(Image: Huw Evans Picture Agency)

Cardiff City delivered a ruthless and entertaining performance to sweep Barnsley aside 4-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium, matching their biggest win of the season.

Goals from Perry Ng, Omari Kellyman and a superb Chris Willock brace capped a dominant display in which the Bluebirds controlled the contest from start to finish.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s side could have scored even more as they toyed with the visitors in a one-sided second half. Here’s how the players rated at Cardiff City Stadium. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community.

Nathan Trott 7

Made one stunning first-half save, flying through the air to deny a Davis Keillor-Dunn thunderbolt, then did well to deny Patrick Kelly after the break. Distribution maybe a tad off.

Perry Ng 8

Made an instant impact when he latched on to a through-ball from Ollie Tanner before rifling into the roof of the net from a tight angle. Smashed a 25-yarder narrowly over, too. Defended solidly as well.

Will Fish 7

Biggest compliment you could pay him is that you didn’t really realise he was playing. Rarely troubled and a cool customer on the ball.

Calum Chambers 8

Continuing his positive form with another seamless display. Keillor-Dunn is a dangerous operator but Chambers dealt with him comfortably.

Joel Bagan 7

Another good outing from Cardiff City’s metronome. Clips those balls down the line so well and Chris Willock prospered a number of times as a result.

Ryan Wintle 7

Ideal game for the midfielder. Mopped up when he needed to and changed direction of play at times. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Alex Robertson 7

Booked early and perhaps fortunate not to see red in the first half after a cynical shirt tug. Otherwise tidy enough before being taken off at the break.

Joel Colwill 7

Made some clever bursts into the box, but the ball rarely fell into his path. Adds to Cardiff’s pressing game when he’s in that advanced midfield role.

Ollie Tanner 8

Looked really dangerous. Racked up another assist – his fourth in three matches – with his pass to Ng. Fired in some wonderful crosses, which Yousef Salech would have loved. Terrorised the defence at times. Should have converted from close range from a Willock cross.

Omari Kellyman 8

A good showing up top in Salech’s absence. Caught Barnsley’s defenders out with a ferocious press once or two. Set-up Willock for his goal and took his own goal excellently, controlling with his right before sliding in with his left. A real striker’s finish. Thrived in his new role up top.

Chris Willock 9 (star man)

Put a lovely cross on Tanner’s toes in the first half, which should have resulted in a goal. Showed a calmness to skin Tennai Watson before slotting home the second before the break. Slotted Kellyman in to score the third to add an assist to his tally before producing a sublime dink finish for his second. Almost unplayable at times.

Subs

David Turnbull (Robertson 46) 7 – Added control and quality after the break, especially with his passing, helping Cardiff dominate the second half.

Cian Ashford (Tanner 70) 6 – Lively enough in his cameo and kept the pressure on down the flank.

Isaak Davies (J. Colwill 70) 6 – Brought energy and movement as the game opened up late on, but maybe on the quiet side.

Callum Robinson (Kellyman 70) 7 – Produced flashes of quality, forcing Owen Goodman into a flying save.

Ronan Kpakio (Bagan 79) N/A
