Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor MBE is celebrating 40 years on the cobbles. The actress, 62, made her first appearance as Sally Seddon on the ITV soap in the episode aired on January 27 1986 and has been a fixture on the programme ever since.
During her very first episode, Sally was seen waiting for a bus in the rain when Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) drove through a puddle and splashed her, prompting a feud that quickly led to one of the most famous marriages in the history of the world’s longest-running TV soap.
Having been presented with a bunch of flowers on set, the official Coronation Street Instagram account shared a post on Tuesday which read: “A huge congratulations to the wonderful Sally Dynevor on an incredible 40 years on Coronation Street! You’ve brought us so much joy and endless entertainment over the decades. Corrie truly wouldn’t be the same without you!”

Reacting to the post, several Coronation Street stars sent their congratulations, with Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs) writing: “We love you @sallydynevor, congratulations!” whilst Georgia Taylor, known for playing Toyah Battersby, said: “Oh how we love you, @sally dynevor!”
Charlie Condou, who played Marcus Dent from 2007 until 2008 and then again from 2011 until 2014, said: “Congratulations Sal, here’s to the next 40!”” Nikki Sanderson, who played Candice Stowe on Coronation Street and recently finished a stint in Hollyoaks as Maxine Minniver, said: “}Ahh congratulations, Sally!” and emblazoned her comment with a string of red heart emojis.
Responding to the celebratory post, Sally, who also regularly appears on Loose Women, wrote: “Thank you everyone. What an incredible show to be part of. The wonderful cast and crew and everyone who works here. Love you all xxx”
Sally and Kevin first tied the knot in 1986 and went on to have daughters Rosie (Helen Flanagan) and Sophie (Brooke Vincent) together, both of whom have now left the programme. Over the years, their marriage was tested numerous times, and it all came to an end in 1999 after Kevin had an affair with Rovers landlady Natalie Horrocks (Denise Welch).

These days, Sally is married to Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) and has even enjoyed a stint as Mayor of Weatherfield
They remarried in 2002, but it all came to blows once again when Sally discovered that Kevin had had another affair with Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) in 2010, and fathered a baby called Jack with her. Molly died in the tram crash as part of the programme’s 50th anniversary, and Sally and Kevin divorced again. Prior to this, in 2009, both the character and the actress were diagnosed with breast cancer, and after making a full recovery, the TV star still actively campaigns to raise awareness of the disease more than 16 years on.
Sally is now married to Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine), and they recently became foster parents to Joanie and Shanice. Known for her social-climbing ways, Sally tried and failed to push her daughter Rosie into stage school, and then into private education, before eventually enjoying stint as Mayor of Weatherfield from 2017 until 2018.
Earlier this month Sally, who appeared in Juliet Bravo and The Practice before taking on her career-defining role, posted a 40th anniversary card gifted to her by co-star Tony Maudsley, who portrays George Shuttleworth in the show.
Sally beamed in her caption: “I can’t believe it’s 40 years in Corrie this month. What a ride it has been. Love what I do so much. Thank you @tonymaudsley1 for this, it’s wonderful.”
