Vincent Koch is set to depart the Sharks at the end of the current season, with reports suggesting the experienced tighthead could be eyeing a return to the Gallagher PREM.

According to Rugby Pass, Koch – who will turn 36 in March – is weighing up his next move after three seasons in Durban. The Sharks have already moved to bolster their front-row resources by securing the signature of Springbok prop Thomas du Toit from Bath for next season, paving the way for Koch’s exit.

One of South Africa’s most decorated forwards, Koch was a key member of the Springbok squads that lifted the Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019 and successfully defended the title in France four years later.

Renowned for his scrummaging power and work rate around the field, he has amassed 63 Test caps for the Boks.

Koch is no stranger to English rugby. He spent six years with Saracens, making over 100 appearances and helping the North London club claim major domestic and European honours.

He also had a spell with Wasps before the Premiership side folded.

Now, with his Sharks chapter coming to a close, Koch is believed to be targeting one final stint at club level, with several sides in the market for an experienced tighthead prop.

Bath, Newcastle Red Bulls and Sale Sharks have emerged as three potential contenders, as Prem clubs look to strengthen their squads ahead of next season with a proven international powerhouse.
