The marine mammal was found at Bowleaze Cove in Weymouth.

Very sadly it appears to be missing its head.

Authorities have been made aware and Dorset Council will be visiting the site tomorrow (Thursday, January 29) to remove it.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: “It has been reported to us and a crew will visit tomorrow and remove it.”

The Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project previously issued some advice on what people should do if they come across a dead dolphin or seal on the beach.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We often get asked what to do about dead dolphins and seals people find on the beach.

A spokesperson for the group told the Echo: “Dolphins, porpoises and whales should be reported to the CSIP cetacean stranding investigation programme by email: strandings@nhm.ac.uk

“They rarely have the resources to recover the animal so if possible take photos including any injuries and include:

Location, time, date found

Sex if possible

Approximate size

Decomposition

“Seals can be reported to: kimmeridge@dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk.

“If you find a live cetacean stranding or a seal that is in distress (it’s normal for them to rest on land) call British Divers Marine Life Rescue on 01825 765546.

“Animals on Chesil usually get washed back out to sea eventually, on Weymouth beach contact Weymouth Town Council.”
