Dundee United are delighted to announce the signing of Ashley Maynard-Brewer from EFL Championship side Charlton Athletic on an initial six-month deal.
Born in Bedfordshire, his family emigrated Down Under during his early years, where he’d begin his journey into professional football with Perth-based outfit ECU Joondalup.

The club’s goalkeeping coach, Andy Petterson, a promotion-winning hero with Charlton in 1998, recommended Maynard-Brewer to his former employers, and he subsequently joined the Addicks’ academy in 2015 following a successful trial period.
The budding shot-stopper progressed through the youth ranks in South East London, before being awarded his senior bow in an EFL Trophy clash with Swansea’s U23 side during the 2018/19 camapign. Subsequently, Maynard-Brewer turned out for Chelmsford City and Hampton & Richmond Borough in the National League South throughout the remainder of the term.Â

Further formative temporary stints with Dulwich Hamlet and Dover Athletic, along with a trip to the Tokyo Olympics with Australia, preceded a switch north of the border as he teamed up with Ross County for 2021/22.
With our new recruit between the sticks for 17 matches of the season, the Staggies defied the odds and secured a remarkable sixth-placed finish for just the third time in their 97-year history. He also received his maiden Socceroos call-up ahead of an international friendly against Mexico in September 2023.

Upon his return to SE7, Maynard-Brewer was installed as first choice ‘keeper, and has since amassed almost a century of appearances for Nathan Jones’ men across three yerars at the Valley. Last year, the Australian was part of the side which ended Charlton’s five-year absence from the second tier of English football after a dramatic triumph over Leyton Orient in the Play-Off Final.
HEALTHY COMPETITION

After expanding his goalkeeping options, Dundee United Manager, Jim Goodwin, said: “Ashley is a goalkeeper I know well from his time at Ross County and from tracking his progress back in England, so this is a move we’ve been keen to make happen.Â
“He brings a strong mix of experience and maturity whilst also having room to develop further, and he’s already demonstrated that he can perform consistently in demanding environments such as the Scottish Premiership and League One.
“He’s technically very sound, commands his area well and is brave in his decision-making, but just as importantly he has the right mentality. He’s played in pressure situations, he’s been part of successful squads, and he understands what it takes to compete week in, week out at this level.
Â
“This deal also gives us healthy competition in the goalkeeping department, which is exactly what you want at this stage of the season. Ashley is hungry to come in, prove himself and make an impact straight away, and that attitude matches the standards we’re trying to set here.”
