Tyson Fury once claimed he was going to purchase Morecambe – and with the former EFL club just days away from ceasing to exist, why hasn’t he put his money where his mouth is?

Tyson Fury, in 2022, claimed he was seriously considering purchasing Morecambe.
In the resulting years, Fury has bolstered his coffers with famous fights while funds have run dry at the once famous Football League club. And their misery has only continued on the pitch as they plummeted into Non-League last season.
And the Shrimps are now days away from dissolving completely as an entity. So the question on the lips of many supporters is exactly why is Fury, who once admitted to wanting to help purchase the club, not budging? When appearing on talkSPORT in 2022, Fury said: “Quick question, I’m thinking about buying Morecambe Football Club, they’re in League One at the moment. So I was thinking I invest X amount of millions in them.”
Simon Jordan then interrupted the former World Champion: “By invest you mean throw it at them, invest is the wrong term.” And Fury replied: “Yeah, basically throw it at them and keep them going up.

“I’ve been offered to buy Morecambe Football Club. I own all the training facilities anyway and the training gym. So who knows? You might be looking at a football club owner.”
Jordan then asked: “You know how to make a small fortune in football?” But Fury was quick to start respond: “Start off with a bigger one! It’s the same as being a boxing promoter.”
Fury is said to be worth an eye-watering £161.9million after he was defeated in the high-profile fight against Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

The figure comes from accounts lodged with Companies House. Tyson Fury Ltd is the firm through which the fighter manages his property affairs, public relations and boxing activities.
Fury is also based in the area, and The Tyson Fury Foundation is housed in the north-east corner of Morecambe’s 6,476-capacity Mazuma Mobile Stadium. The Gypsy King has also sponsored the club’s shorts in the past.
And Jordan, who Fury spoke with in 2022, has now called upon him to save the club. He said: “I spoke to Tyson about it two years ago and he was interested [in becoming Morecambe owner].

“He wanted to do something like that; he was asking about the ideas of running a football club. Given the fact Tyson Fury doesn’t even pay his debts to Piers Morgan when he gets a million quid, I don’t think he’s going to put his hands in his pocket and buy a football club.
“Let’s call him out. Let’s say, Tyson Fury, the most prominent resident of Morecombe, has lots to say and is always talking about how he can help different people. Here’s an opportunity, Tyson. Put your hand in your pocket. You’ve got £170m in assets, buy your football club.
“Do something for somebody else besides yourself.”

Fury, however, is under no obligation to purchase the club.
Potential new owners Panjab Warriors have implored much-criticised owner Jason Whittingham to agree to their sale terms, as the club have been forced to halt all football activities due to insufficient insurance coverage.
A post on social media laid the situation bare – the club will be “officially shut” on Monday and they have “£0 in the bank”.

The statement added: “Without an agreement today: The club will rapidly disintegrate. Staff and players are leaving – soon there will be nothing left to sell. Jason Whittingham your legacy is in your hands.
“You will be remembered in Morecambe not for your intentions, but for the outcome of today. Do the right thing, stop the suffering. Panjab Warriors are ready and have reached out daily to complete this acquisition.”
