A man aged in his 50s has died following a motorbike crash on the M60, police have confirmed.

The man, who was riding the bike, died at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics and emergency services workers, Greater Manchester Police said.

A section of the M60 was closed on Friday night (August 1) between junction 18 for Simister Island and junction 19, near Middleton. The closure was first reported just after 8pm and diversions were put in place.

In a statement on Saturday, GMP said: “Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses following a collision on the M60 in which a motorcyclist died.

“At around 8.15pm yesterday, Friday, we were called to reports of a single-vehicle RTC involving a motorcycle travelling clockwise on the M60 between junctions 18 and 19.

“Despite best efforts of the emergency services, a male in his 50s sadly died at the scene of the collision.

No other vehicles were involved and we are now appealing for more information to understand the circumstances that led up to the collision.

“We are particularly interested in anybody who may have dash-cam footage of the incident.

“Anyone with information or footage should contact us on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 3180-010825. Details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
