Sloth might deliver rip-roaring performances on The Masked Singer UK, but behind the scenes, their antics left production members worried.

Tonight, the latest round of the singing competition will air on ITV, with Can of Worms, Conkers, Moth, Red Panda, Sloth and Toastie returning to compete on TV’s most bonkers stage yet again.

Last week’s double elimination left viewers’ jaws on the floor, as Monkey Business was revealed to be legendary singer Kate Nash, and Arctic Fox turned out to be Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke.

Metro recently spoke to The Masked Singer UK’s costume designer, Tim Simpson, creative director at Plunge Creations, who gave a fascinating insight into why Sloth’s energetic demeanour had members of the crew feeling concerned.

Tim began by explaining that, given the show has now been on TV for six years, when celebrities sign up to take part, they understand that it’s a huge physical undertaking not only to perform, but to do so while wearing a hefty outfit.

‘These performers are really up for it, and they really enjoy it. They’ve seen it enough times to realise that, and probably the word has gone out in the grapevine that if you’re going to get involved in The Masked Singer, then you’re gonna have to really strap in and get fit,’ he said.

‘So the word’s gone out, and by the time they arrive on set, or by the time we get to the costumes to them, I think they’re already quite into it.’

In the real world, sloths are known for being very slow-moving creatures, a trait that actually helps with their survival skills in the wild.

But not this Sloth. This Sloth is decked out in an 80s workout-inspired costume and has boundless energy in buckets. So much energy, in fact, that members of the ITV production team feared that they could be at risk of damaging the costume.

‘Sloth, who apparently not just enjoyed the costume, but got to the point where it nearly scared the production team, because they were so physical and so athletic and so keen to be doing yoga and aerobics that we worried for the safety of the costume,’ Tim recalled.

‘The more the performers jump around, the better they look, but the harder it is on the costume.’
