Celtic are now in advanced talks to sign a nine-cap international who “works incredibly hard”, and a medical has been booked.
Hoops closing in on new signing
With the Hoops still competing for the Scottish Premiership title, and qualifying for the play-off round of the Europa League, Martin O’Neill has made it clear he wants to bring in some new reinforcements.
O’Neill said: “I am very hopeful that we will get recruits in. I am looking for a bit of quality to supplement and improve the squad. We need that, especially with the extra games in Europe.”
O’Neill & co are seemingly particularly keen to strengthen in attacking areas, with it recently emerging they are closing in on the signing of Lorient forward Joel Mvuka.
However, Mvuka may not be the only new arrival, with it being revealed the Scottish side are also closing in on the signing of SC Freiburg’s Junior Adamu, having reached a “total verbal agreement” with the striker.
That is according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg on X, who reveals the Hoops are now in advanced talks to sign Adamu, who is travelling to Glasgow to undergo a medical, with the final details being sorted.
There could still be a late twist, as some unnamed clubs are trying to hijack the deal, but if they are unsuccessful in their attempts, the Freiburg striker is set to become a Celtic player.
Adamu would be risky signing for Celtic
In truth, there are doubts over whether the 24-year-old would be a worthwhile signing for the Hoops, given that he hasn’t exactly been prolific in the Bundesliga, since making the move to Freiburg from RB Salzburg back in 2023.

The nine-time Austria international has fallen down the pecking order as of late, failing to get off the bench in eight of the previous nine Bundesliga games, prior to his side’s fixture against Stuttgart earlier today.
After impressing against VfL Osnabrück back in August, the centre-forward did receive praise from journalist Thiemo Muller, who said: “Junior has rewarded himself for an intensive training camp. He works incredibly hard on and against the ball. And then it’s no coincidence that he was rewarded with two goals.”

Better than Mvuka: Celtic in talks to seal late deal for £6m “threat”
Celtic are reportedly in talks to sign a winger who would be a way better addition than Joel Mvuka.
However, having a good work rate isn’t enough to be a top striker, so there are question marks over whether Adamu will prove to be a solid acquisition, but O’Neill will certainly be hoping he can hit the ground running, as he looks to close the gap to league leaders Hearts.
