Concerns were raised by residents on Fakes Road, where homes are being demolished after being deemed at risk of collapsing onto the beach, about the safety of a major sewer pipe running close to the cliff edge.
In a statement, an Anglian Water spokesperson said the company has been assessing the impact of coastal erosion on both properties and its wastewater infrastructure.
It said properties identified for demolition have already been “safely disconnected from the main sewer network”.

The spokesperson added: “Our teams continue to conduct regular checks of the network serving the area, and as the coastline changes, we’ll continue to isolate and seal sections of the sewer whenever our assessments show it’s needed.”

Villagers had previously warned that damage to the pipe could lead to sewage leaking onto the beach.
The longer-term future of the sewer network in the area has not yet been confirmed.
