Louis Rees-Zammit’s days as a starting winger look over as he admits he prefers his role at full-back ahead of his return to the Six Nations with Wales.
The Bristol star has primarily been used as a winger throughout his career, but his strong showings for his club in the 15 role have opened up a debate over whether he could potentially play a similar role for Wales on a long-term basis.
Wales begin their Six Nations campaign with a trip to England on the opening weekend, and few are giving Tandy’s men much of a chance of getting anything at Twickenham.
But moving Rees-Zammit to full-back has been mooted as a potentially transformative move for Tandy’s back-line, and the player himself says he feels it’s a position that plays to his strengths. Blair Murray took on the role throughout the autumn internationals but was repeatedly targeted with high kicks due to his small stature.

“I love it,” he told the BBC. It allows me to get more touches on the ball in open field, it suits my game.
“I much prefer it. I’ve played 15 in the past for Wales, but I think now I’m kind of seen as a 15 that can play on the wing.
“It just brings something different and the way Bristol play is absolutely perfect for me.
“I’ve got the licence to not do what I want, but when I’ve got the ball back there I have to make a decision and back myself.”
Speaking about the subject on BBC Scrum V, Tandy said: “I definitely see him as high potential around the 15 if he can get on the ball.
“But it’s about how teams can take that away by being contestable.
“So there’s a whole host of things to think about.
“But you’ve seen the games he’s played at full-back and we spoke about it when he came into camp.
“He’s coming back in and getting into his groove, getting back up to speed after injury.
“But he’s very open and he loves that position as well.”
Wales face England at Twickenham on Saturday. Kick-off is at 4.40pm
