Flood alerts are currently in place across Surrey, including for parts of the River Thames, with the Environment Agency (EA) telling the public to ‘be prepared’.

There are seven flood alerts on parts of the Thames in Surrey stretching from Staines-upon-Thames, through Shepperton, Thames Ditton, Chertsey and Molesey and up to Richmond.

The EA is warning of high water levels in Shepperton, Chertsey and Molesey. While in Thames Ditton, Hamptons and Teddington there is a risk of flooding due to “high tides combined with high river flows from upstream”.

The flood alerts across the Thames in Surrey have all been put in place between Monday evening (February 2) and Tuesday morning (February 3) and will be updated by the agency “as the situation changes”.

The Environment Agency has warned specifically of flooding on the Thames in Sunbury, the Penton Hook area and Free Prae Road in Chertsey.

In the meantime, for much of these parts of the River Thames, a spokesperson for the EA told the public yesterday (February 2): “Further rainfall is forecast throughout tomorrow (February 3) with a chance of heavy showers. We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days.

“We are closely monitoring the situation. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.”
