Rangers have been tasked with replacing Václav Černý all summer.
Despite a few concerns over their performances in pre-season, there is a sense of optimism at Ibrox, and most of that stems from the recruitment done so far.
Russell Martin has been backed by the 49ers, though there is still a lot of work to be done before the Scottish giants return to competitive action.
High up on their list of priorities was replacing Černý’s influence at Ibrox last season, and with a new deal announced at Ibrox, it seems as though they may have already done it.

After a slight delay, Rangers were finally able to announce the signing of Djeidi Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday (15 July), with the winger signing a four-year deal at Ibrox.
The Frenchman caught the eye in the Championship last season, and Sheffield-based journalist Joe Crann thinks he has the attributes to shine in Glasgow and could be the ideal replacement for Černý.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Crann said: “He definitely has the ability to create and score, and his numbers weren’t too far away from Černý‘s at Rangers last season.

“I think he could have a lot of fun in Glasgow.
“He’s quick, he’s direct, and he will get supporters off their seats. His breakout season last year saw him have some good games, and he’s the sort of player who can excite fans.
“He’ll run at people, win lots of fouls, and as his decision-making improves, he’ll get better and better.”

Last season, Celtic ran away with the league, but with the way Rangers have recruited so far this summer, that gap will almost certainly be reduced at the very least.
Martin still needs to find his best starting lineup, and with more arrivals expected, the next few weeks in Glasgow are going to be crucial.
