Diogo Dalot is now into his eighth year as a Manchester United player so he has shared the pitch with some incredible talents.

The Portuguese right-back made his move to Old Trafford in 2018 under the tenure of Jose Mourinho, and he continues to be a regular starter under Michael Carrick.

Legendary United full-back Denis Irwin praised Diogo Dalot for his consistency over the years. Regardless of which manager comes in, he always finds his way into the starting XI.

Dalot is incredibly close to Bruno Fernandes as his Portuguese compatriot, and the United captain is in such good form this season that he is competing for Player of the Season in the Premier League.

However, he has made it clear that Fernandes is not the best United player he has shared a pitch with.

Speaking on the Inside Carrington podcast, Dalot revealed that it is (perhaps unsurprisingly) Cristiano Ronaldo who impressed him most as a teammate.

When asked the best player he has played with, Dalot said: “Oh, I have to say Cristiano. I mean, for the whole package, the way he came, I think he changed my career.

“After I met him, he helped me a lot, going through a lot of scenarios here at the club. And even in that moment, he helped me.

“So the whole package, I would say, apart from the quality and the moments that he had, even the season when he came back, he really impressed me.”

Dalot will be familiar with playing with Ronaldo from the Portugal national team, but he also shared the Old Trafford pitch during his second stint at United between 2021 and 2022.

Diogo Dalot is a leader at Man United

Throughout his eight years at the club, Dalot has received a lot of criticism but it is irrefutable that he has been constantly available and always given his all on the pitch for United.

Under Ruben Amorim, Dalot was introduced to the leadership group in the dressing room, which shows just how important he is from an off-pitch perspective.

Michael Carrick is a big admirer of Dalot, and he is certainly not the first manager of United to feel that way.

While he may not be a world-class footballer, Dalot certainly has the mentality and attitude to succeed at United, and his efforts over the last eight years will probably only be properly appreciated when he leaves the club.
