Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street’s Bernie Winter-Alahan is encouraged to tell her husband Dev the truth about her night with Mal Roper next week, as Mal decides to stick around in Weatherfield. The wise advice comes from Bernie’s worried daughter Gemma, but is she prepared to listen?

Bernie is currently living in fear after Mal landed a temporary job at her place of work – helping to fix the electrics at Roy Cropper’s café. She’s desperate to make sure that Dev doesn’t find out that she took drugs with Mal in a guest room at the Chariot Square Hotel, but the walls already seem to be closing in…

Spotting Mal in the café, Ryan Connor recognises him from Bernie’s drunken night at the hotel.

In confidence, Bernie explains to Ryan that Mal is an electrician who’s doing some work for Roy and asks him not to mention what he saw at the hotel to anyone else.

However, when Bernie tells her daughter Gemma that Roy’s new electrician is the fella she bonded with, disapproving Gemma urges her mum to confess everything to Dev.

“Gemma fears that if Bernie doesn’t tell Dev what happened, he’ll hear it from someone else and face more upset,” explains our Corrie source.

“Unfortunately, headstrong Bernie isn’t usually one for taking other people’s advice, so there’s no guessing whether she’ll be honest with Dev or not.”

Later, Mal observes Dev and Bernie chatting, then lies to Roy that the flat needs a complete rewire that’ll take some more time, clearly determined to stay on the Street.

What are Mal’s motives – and how far will he go to keep Bernie in his life?

Bernie’s wild night came as she struggled with her grief for Billy Mayhew, who’d died in the tragic Corriedale crash. The heartbreaking turn of events brought back memories of Billy and Bernie’s shared loss of Paul Foreman, who’d passed away in 2024.

“There are consequences for Bernie,” Coronation Street’s producer Kate Brooks recently said. “It’s not as straightforward as Dev sweeping in and making sure that everything’s okay.

“It’s a really muddy, murky story that we take her on. I think it just again explores another side of Bernie that we’ve not seen yet.”

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
