Tottenham boss Martin Ho speaking to the BBC: “I’m disappointed for the players. In the first half we had to suffer without the ball, they are a good team and they push you back, but I thought we defended the box quite well even though they created some other chances.

“I thought we had numerous good chances in the first half. We moved the ball well, we broke well and then when we had some moments of sustained possession we created. In these tight games against top teams when you get half or full chances one or two of them need to go in to get a foothold.

“We didn’t manage to score and then they score off a set play which we are disappointed about, and then they get another so soon in the second half which we didn’t want. From then they are experienced enough team to manage the game.”

“I asked for an honest performance, a high level and to play the way we want to play, and they gave everything and did that for large parts. You also know Chelsea are a wonderful team and they will create.”

On the second half drop off: “Going into half time I thought we were good in terms of going back out, and we started the second half quite well. Once the second goal it deflated us a little bit, because you know you have done so well up to that point of 50 minutes and then to concede so soon after half time is deflating. I’m gutted for the players because in the first half I thought we were really good.”

On being more clinical: “It’s that ruthless edge. In these games when the ball drops you need to take them. We had numerous chances and they have to go in, if they do go in then you can be more brave with the ball to push them back because they need to go in.”
