The owners of the main holiday park and attractions in one of Somerset’s biggest seaside resorts have reassured visitors that it will be opening as usual this spring, despite the theme park next door entering liquidation.

Bosses at Brean Leisure Park said they were ‘sorry and surprised’ to see that Brean Theme Park appointed liquidators last week, sparking fears it could be forced to close.

The Leisure Park bosses said that while Brean Theme Park does lease land from Unity Holidays, the parent company that runs Brean Leisure Park, they are a different business entirely, and the Leisure Park itself and all the other attractions it runs were not affected.

On Thursday, Somerset Live reported that Brean Theme Park had gone into liquidation. It was scheduled to reopen for the 2026 season on Saturday, March 14, but the process has entered the ‘Resolutions for Winding Up’ stage, which usually means the business would have to stop trading.

That means that, unless a buyer can be found quickly, who is able to get the theme park up and running in a month, Brean Theme Park is unlikely to be reopening next month or for the foreseeable future.

In a statement issued on its Brean Leisure Park social media channels, Unity Holidays has since sought to reassure people that the other venues, parks and attractions it owns in Brean are unaffected and will be opening for the season as normal.

“We’re sorry and surprised to read the news about Brean Theme Park, but we wanted to reassure you that it has no effect on Unity Beach, Brean Splash, Brean Play and Brean Gym,” said a spokesperson for Unity Beach.

“While Brean Theme Park leases land from Unity Holidays, it is not a business we own. The theme park is its own business.

“We continue to operate as normal, and Brean Play, Brean Splash and Brean Gym will re-open as planned for the 2026 season – all with many improvements and enhancements as part of our ongoing investment in our Unity Beach resort,” they added.

Brean Leisure Park’s website lists the theme park as one of its attractions, along with Unity Gym, Brean Golf Course, Unity Splash Waterpark and Unity Play soft play, to complement the Unity Beach holiday park where there are major ongoing improvement plans.

The splash park temporarily shut in December for a £10.2 million transformation set to include an extra outdoor pool, a lido-style section, a lazy river and revamped changing facilities ready for the 2026 season.

However, many regular visitors to Brean said the resort would not be the same if the Brean Theme Park closes. Some commenters have blamed the downturn in the last couple of years in Brean on the conversion of the Pontins Brean Sands holiday camp into a residential centre for workers at the new Hinkley Point nuclear power station.
