Plus, you can relax at the Breakwater Café, which serves locally sourced food (take in the “breathtaking” views of the bay while you feast).

A recent visitor posted: “We visited the Maritime Centre during our holiday in Newbiggin. The Restaurant offers lovely views across the Bay and is a great place to enjoy a very good cup of coffee.

“On this occasion we did not sample the scones, however we have been told that these are delicious. Something to look forward to when next in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea!”

Visit Northumberland continues: “The [Maritime] centre has a sea view cafe, Seashore Shop and three gallery museums, this fantastic visitor attraction offers an array of events, including an annual Kite Festival, live music gigs and film showings.”

Close by is the RNLI Newbiggin Lifeboat Station, which is the oldest operational boathouse in the British Isles.
