Celtic fans are desperate to be handed a return of the full Broomloan Stand for next month’s Scottish Cup blockbuster at Ibrox.

But hopes of the traditional Old Firm away allocation being restored could yet be scuppered by precedents that have already been set. Hoops chiefs are pushing for around 7,000 tickets at Ibrox after being paired with Danny Rohl’s side in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

SFA rules allow away clubs to claim up to 20 per cent of a home stadium’s capacity – which would equate to roughly 11,000 seats.

However, discussions are expected to take place between both clubs and Police Scotland over whether the Parkhead side will be granted the traditional allocation of the entire section behind the Broomloan goal.

Celtic expect an agreement to be reached, but there are no cast-iron guarantees as recent history shows.

Back in 2019, Aberdeen knocked back Rangers’ request for 4,000 tickets for a cup tie at Pittodrie, citing issues around segregation and securing the relevant safety certification from Police Scotland.

The stand-off ultimately saw Rangers handed just half the allocation they had sought, with safety concerns trumping demand.

More recently, Celtic themselves took a firm stance over away numbers when Hibs came calling in last season’s Scottish Cup quarter-final.

Despite the SFA’s 20 per cent guideline, Easter Road officials were initially told they would receive just 2,667 briefs for the Parkhead clash.

Celtic later agreed to increase that figure to 7,000 following discussions – still only around 10 per cent of Celtic Park’s 60,832 capacity – underlining why any return to a full Broomloan Stand is far from guaranteed.

However, following Monday night’s draw, Celtic’s Supporter Liaison Officer shared an old image of the Broomloan Stand awash in green and white – a not-so-subtle hint that the Parkhead hierarchy will be pressing their case for a full away allocation.
