A Welsh health board has urged people to only attend its A&E department if it is an emergency, warning it is currently “extremely busy”. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board says people attending the ward at University Hospital of Wales to only attend if it is urgent.

A statement read: “Our emergency unit is extremely busy which is resulting in longer waiting times for treatment.

“Please only attend if it is an emergency.

“If you are not sure whether your condition is an emergency or if your condition is urgent, but not life-threatening, NHS 111 Wales can help.

“NHS 111 Wales is a free, 24/7 non-emergency healthcare advice service available to everyone in Wales online or on the phone.”
