North Herts Council has given the green light for Hitchin Dental Practice in Highbury Road to change the residential use of the upper floors of its building to commercial use, enabling the existing ground floor dental practice to expand.
The expansion will include a reception/waiting area, three consultation rooms and staff facilities.
A 50% increase in the number of appointments is anticipated, with the workforce doubling to six dentists, six nurses and two receptionists.
The dental practice is currently open Monday to Friday, but there are plans to also open on Saturdays.

In a design and access statement accompanying the planning application, it says the expansion will “meet growing patient demand and enhance the range of services offered”.
Cycle parking will be provided within the site for both staff and patients.
The existing three on-site parking spaces will remain available for use by the practice.
The design and access statement points to the expansion increasing the provision of NHS dental services in the town, generating employment, and supporting the growth of a local healthcare business.
