Chris Bloore MP, Labour Member of Parliament for Redditch and the Villages, has welcomed confirmation from Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust that land at the Alexandra Hospital site, which had previously been sold, will now be retained within the NHS estate.

This will help to support the future expansion of local health services, rather than being used for supermarket or other commercial development.

The confirmation follows a visit by Bloore to the Alexandra Hospital, where he met Stephen Collman, acting Chief Executive of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, and Dr Julian Berlet, Chief Clinical Strategy Officer.

During the visit, Bloore toured departments across the site and held detailed discussions about the long-term future of the hospital, local healthcare provision and opportunities to introduce new and expanded specialist services in Redditch.

At the meeting, Trust leadership confirmed that the land, which had previously been sold as part of earlier plans linked to commercial development, will now be brought back into NHS use, allowing the space to be safeguarded for future clinical expansion and investment.

MP Chris Bloore said: “I am delighted to confirm that, following my meeting with Trust leadership, land at the Alexandra Hospital site that had previously been sold will now be retained for NHS purposes rather than commercial development.

“We share a clear and ambitious vision for the future of the Alex, including the introduction of new and expanded specialist services. Delivering that vision requires space and ensuring this land remains dedicated to healthcare is a hugely positive step for our community.

“This gives us the certainty needed to plan properly for the future, working hand in hand with our incredible NHS staff to develop the services local people need and deserve.”

Bloore said the update would provide reassurance to residents who had raised concerns about the long-term security of healthcare provision in Redditch and the surrounding villages.

He added that keeping the land within the NHS estate “opens the door” for future investment in improved facilities and additional services for local people.

The Alexandra Hospital remains a key healthcare hub for the constituency and Bloore reiterated his commitment to maintaining regular dialogue with NHS leaders, clinicians, staff and residents to ensure community voices are reflected in future development plans.

He also paid tribute to frontline NHS staff across Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for their continued dedication to patient care, stressing that future planning must be shaped in partnership with those delivering services on the ground.
