Jonjoe Kenny reckons his disappointing loan stint at Celtic was simply a case of being in the ‘wrong place at the wrong time’.
But the full back is now delighted to have been reunited with one of his pals from Glasgow at Greek giants PAOK.
After racking up dozens of first team appearances for boyhood club Everton, Kenny was brought to Parkhead by Neil Lennon on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 season. However, he arrived at a time where the Hoops were in the midst of a disastrous defence of their Premiership title defence.
Kenny failed to make an impression in his 16 outings in the green-and-white, and just weeks after his arrival, boss Lennon was given the boot as Rangers went onto complete an unbeaten season to clinch the league championship, a staggering 25 points behind their city rivals.
Kenny left the Toffees to sign for Hertha Berlin in 2022, having previously spent time out on loan in Germany with Schalke.
After three years at the Olympiastadion he then headed out to Thessaloniki on a free transfer last summer, where he was quickly joined by Greg Taylor, who penned a three-year deal with PAOK after the end of his contract at Celtic.
Kenny also previously played against the fellow defender during his time in England’s youth set-up against Scotland and is chuffed to have a familiar face with him so far from home.
Speaking about his spell at Celtic with ex Parkhead youngster Paul Slane on Open Goal, he said: “Yeah, Greg’s my boy. I met him before Celtic….I was on a lads holiday, and we got chatting and that. He played for Scotland under-21s at the time.

“And obviously, I went to Celtic. The club’s massive, and everyone knows what it means to people. I’ve got family members who are big Celtic fans, and I knew what it meant.
“But it’s just wrong place at the wrong time. The club wasn’t going through a good time; I think Rangers had already won the league at the time, hadn’t they?
“I’ve just gone to get game time and obviously play for a massive club… (laughs) obviously, it’s just went the other way.
“Listen, you’ve got to bounce back. It’s football, do you know what I mean? Everyone’s got their own little story, and that was part of mine.”
