ITV has announced its leads for the reboot of beloved British detective series Dalziel and Pascoe and there’s a big twist. Taskmaster star Kerry Godliman and The Lazarus Project star Nina Singh will star as the titular detectives, who were previously played by men.

Godliman will play seasoned Detective Inspector Andrea Dalziel, who is partnered with the “newly qualified, by the book perfectionist” Detective Sergeant Paige Pascoe, played by Singh.

The show’s description reads: “Despite their clashing methods, Dalziel and Pascoe work together to form a formidable partnership that is underscored by humour, heart and humanity.”

Described as a “fresh and contemporary reimagining”, the reboot was first announced in January, with ITV and partner Britbox keeping casting details under wraps.

Based on the series of books by Reginald Hill, the original Dalziel and Pascoe aired for 12 seasons from 1996 to 2007 and starred Warren Clarke and Colin Buchanan.

Speaking about the role, Godliman said: “I’m so chuffed to be playing the assertively charming Detective Inspector Andrea Dalziel.

“It’s a juicy role as she’s such an interesting personality – accomplished at her job, warm, but also direct to the point of being abrasive. Weary and warm hearted. Lots to get my teeth into!”

Her co-star Singh added: “It’s an absolute honour to be playing Pascoe to Kerry Godliman’s Dalziel. I find Kerry hilarious, so I know at times I’ll struggle not to be laughing.

“Colette Kane and the writing team have incorporated humour so well into the scripts at the same time as keeping you constantly guessing what’ll happen next – in true Dalziel and Pascoe form.”

Dalziel and Pascoe is set to begin filming in the spring of 2026 in the North of England. It will air on ITV and STV and be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.

The series will consist of six episodes which will be directed by Isher Sahota and produced by Juliet Charlesworth. Vera writer Colette Kane and Daisy Martey (Vikings: Valhalla) have worked together to co-create the new adaptation.
