Benjamin Sesko has made Tim Sherwood eat his words after scoring his fifth goal in six games for Manchester United.

Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with West Ham saw Michael Carrick face a low block, which they struggled to break down until the 96th minute.

It looked like Carrick’s unbeaten run was about to end until Benjamin Sesko came off the bench to score the crucial equaliser. That meant United are still unbeaten in the Premier League since the beginning of 2026.

Although Sesko was disappointed not to win the result against West Ham on Tuesday night, the point was enough to keep United in the top four.

United didn’t get the result they wanted, but there were positives to take from the game, including the moment Tim Sherwood admitted he was wrong about one of United’s latest signings.

Sesko struggled for goals during the first half of his debut season, but some pundits ignored the fact that he is a young striker trying to adapt to the Premier League.

Sherwood slammed Sesko after his first-half performance in United’s 2-2 draw against Burnley on January 7, when Darren Fletcher stepped in as caretaker head coach.

The Slovenian striker scored two goals in the second half to rescue a point for United, which was quite the turnaround after Sherwood argued that Sesko shouldn’t be wearing a United shirt.

A month later, after United’s draw against West Ham, Sherwood changed his tune.

Sherwood told Premier League Productions he wondered how Sesko was a United player under Ruben Amorim, but says he’s a real threat under Carrick.

“It’s a directive from Michael Carrick to get the ball into the box because this boy’s nothing without service,” Sherwood said.

“And when you give him the service, he never got any service when he was playing for Ruben Amorim. None at all.

“You were scratching your head saying how can this boy play for Man United? He can’t link play, but when he’s playing under Michael Carrick getting the ball in wide areas putting it into the box and he’s a real threat. Fantastic finish from him.”

Should Sesko be starting more games for United?

Sesko should be aiming for double figures when it comes to goals with over 10 games left to play in his first season at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old has scored six goals in the Premier League and one in the FA Cup, meaning he is just three goals away from double figures.

It may be difficult to achieve unless Sesko is given a starting role in some of the remaining games, but that would require a change from Carrick, who stuck with the same team against Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham.

The more players United have hitting double figures for goals the better.
