Tributes have been paid to a Cornwall chef described as a unique man who never stopped laughing.
Alexander Key’s body was found in the sea off Bude on January 31 after he was reported missing from Boscastle on January 24.
His long-term partner, Sir Mick Jagger’s granddaughter Assisi Jackson, has shared a touching tribute to the father of their two children Romy and Ezra. The pair owned the small seafood restaurant the Rocket Store in Boscastle together and she says she’s determined to keep it going.
Known affectionately as Alex, he was recognised as a unique man who had the ability to shape lives in his community.
Assisi wrote: “It is with the deepest of sadness and love in our hearts that we share the passing of Alex Key on 31st January 2026.
“For all of us that had the privilege of working with him, Alex was far more than a chef. He was a unique man who wasn’t afraid to take risks and never stopped laughing.
“His presence at the Rocket Store shaped so many lives and brought fun and rhythm to every service. He was endlessly inspired by different cultures and cuisines, combining fresh Cornish produce with different flavours from his travels.
“The Rocket Store was the perfect map of his life through food.
“He has left us all with a remarkable legacy, his warmth and energy will always resonate with us. His mantra was simple ‘break even and have fun’.
“Above all, he was the treasured father to Romy and Ezra, and life partner to Assisi. He will be greatly missed.”

Assisi referred to one of Mr Key’s phrases – ‘We should always know that there is something that we are yet to discover within ourselves and the wider reality forged into the universe. Please take time for yourself but give time to others.’
“The Rocket Store will continue to be run by myself, Assisi Jackson and Christopher Key, his father.”
Assisi is the daughter of Jade Jagger, Sir Mick’s daughter with his first wife Bianca Jagger.
Mr Key’s family had previously thanked police and HM Coastguard for their efforts along with all those who assisted in the search for him.
