A woman has died after being hit by a HGV in Walton. A massive police operation covered the area of Walton Hall Avenue, close to the junction of Walton Lane and Walton Village, following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a lorry at around 10.30am today, February 11.
Emergency services attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained Family Liaison Officers.
Road closures were put in place at the crossroads of Walton Hall Avenue and Queens Drive, diverting traffic away from the area. A cordon was put up at the crossroads with Walton Lane, Walton village, and Cherry Lane, with a blue tent and white screens set up within the cordon this morning.
A bright green HGV could also be seen parked at the side of the road within the cordon.
One man working in the area said: “I came to work this morning around 10.30am and they had the white tent up. I thought I’d walk down and see what was going on, because I thought that was a big (police) turn-out.”
Another man, who was walking on Walton Lane around the time of the incident, said: “I saw it for myself. I saw the white tent being put up.”
Officers were seen attending businesses and shops in the area, and a police drone could be seen operating above the cordon.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) said: “My thoughts are with the women’s family at this awful time and our priority is to get answers for them. Although someone has been arrested, this investigation remains in the very early stages and I appeal to anyone with information to come forward and help us establish the full circumstances of this incident.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on Walton Lane, near to Walton Village, at around 10.30am who witnessed what happened and who has yet to speak to my team, to please get in touch. Additionally, if your vehicle is fitted with front or rear dash cameras, then please check to see if it has captured anything that you may be unaware of. This could prove to be important to our enquiries.
“Finally, my sincere thanks to those members of the public who stopped at the scene and assisted where they could. I appreciate that this was a traumatic incident and your help is greatly appreciated.
