Motherwell’s Stephen Welsh celebrates
Motherwell loanee Stephen Welsh sent a bullish message to Rangers after putting a dent in their title ambitions.
Danny Rohl’s men held a 1-0 lead at Fir Park against 10-man ‘Well, before Welsh netted in the 89th minute to rescue a vital point for Jens Berthel Askou‘s men. The result means Rangers failed to ramp up the pressure on league leaders Hearts – with the Scottish Premiership leaders holding a five-point advantage over the Light Blues.
Celtic were also able to close the gap on second-placed Rangers with their win over Livingston. The Hoops are now a point behind their city rivals having played a game less.
Following his crucial equaliser, the 26-year-old took to social media. He shared a snap of the Motherwell celebrations to his Instagram story, alongside a caption reading: “Have that.” That was accompanied by a laughing face emoji.
The defender followed that up with a post with a message to Motherwell fans that was alongside snaps of the goal and the wild celebrations from the Steelmen. The message read: Never give up. Thanks for your support…”

A host of Welsh’s Celtic teammates praised the message. Arne Engels, Callum Osmand, Alistair Johnston, Daizen Maeda, Paulo Bernardo and Kieran Tierney all liked the post.
Hoops’ goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo commented “what a man” with a four-leaf clover and heart emoji. Former Parkhead favourites like Scott Brown, Joe Hart, Greg Taylor and Jeremie Frimpong also offered the centre-half support on the post.
