Inflation came to 2.5% in January

Inflation. The European Union-harmonized consumer price index grew to 3.3% in May, from 2.6% in April, on an annual basis, Eurostat announced on Tuesday, just as in the eurozone the average rate declined from 2.2% in April to 1.9 % last month. Food inflation, in particular, grew to 2.8% in May in Greece, from 1.7% in April, the same data showed.

Inflation amounted to 2.5% in January, down from 2.6% last December and compared with an increase of 2.7% in January 2025, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reported on Thursday.

However, these rates are not directly comparable because of changes to the general index starting in January, such as the inclusion of games of chance and other services related to personal transport.

The problem with inflation remains in food and groceries, the index of which recorded an increase of 4.5%.
