The Harbour Hotel Spa in Guildford has been closed for what has been described as an “isolated issue” as an Environmental Heath officer investigates.
On Wednesday, February 11, the Harbour hotel notified its members that the spa facilities had been closed with immediate effect for an initial period of one week.
The closure was blamed on “urgent maintenance work” in the wet spa area where there are hydrotherapy pools, a sauna and steam room.
A spokesperson for the hotel has not specified the exact problem but Guildford Borough Council has been informed of the spa closure.
A spokesperson said: “We received a complaint about an alleged hygiene issue at the Harbour Hotel Spa on Wednesday 11 February 2026.
“One of our Environmental Health Officers is currently investigating. We understand that the spa is currently closed for maintenance.”
The Harbour Hotel in Guildford was awarded a TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Award in 2025, and has a 4.1 star rating on the site. A monthly individual HarSPA membership is £85 per month.
A spokesperson for Harbour Hotels said: “We can confirm that Harbour Hotel Guildford made the decision to temporarily close its spa facilities on Wednesday 11th February after identifying an isolated issue within the sauna area.
“Specialist contractors have been appointed to carry out urgent works and in line with standard procedure, the relevant authorities have been informed of the action taken and the intended scope of works.
“We are communicating regularly with members and apologise for the temporary inconvenience while we resolve the matter. We will share updates once the spa is ready to reopen and look forward to welcoming guests back imminently.”
