The Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando has been hospitalised for mental health issues after he was accused of sending unsolicited explicit videos to a fan.
A statement from a representative (per Variety) reads, “Evan Dando has long struggled with mental health issues dating back to his childhood.”
It continues, “He’s been admitted to a local hospital where he’s receiving comprehensive help from experienced doctors and mental health professionals.”
The hospitalisation comes after a fan alleged that Dando sent her a string of unsolicited videos of him masturbating via direct message on the social media platform X.
On February 12th, The Underground Bunker shared a series of screenshots from the alleged conversation between Dando and the fan.
The unnamed female fan, who used the pseudonym Dawn, claims to have initially spoken to Dando on the platform many years ago, before congratulating him recently about the release of the Lemonheads’ latest album, Love Chant.
Shortly afterwards, Dando is alleged to have sent her videos of him masturbating. Dawn told The Underground Bunker, “It’s him sitting in a basement or something, and he’s fully masturbating. You can see his penis, and his face. It’s definitely him. He’s filming it from a weird angle.”
The following day after the initial video, Dawn said she received another similar piece of unsolicited footage. She said of the clip, “It’s him masturbating again. Same place. Same shirt. But a different video.”
Dawn also said that Dando messaged her, “Ok sorry thanks I just need an outlet Cheers.” In response to that comment, she told The Underground Bunker, “I’ve never felt anger like that. Don’t call me an outlet, that’s gross.”
Dando, who lives in Brazil, has since deactivated his X account.
During an interview with The Guardian last October, Dando stated that he had been clean from heroin for nearly three years and said he was prioritising his family after marrying Antonia Teixeira in 2024.
