Sony's Santa Monica Studio Has Another Unannounced PS5 Project in Production 1

There was some concern during yesterday’s State of Play that Santa Monica Studio’s next big project may be the God of War Trilogy Remake it announced.

While undeniably exciting, we’re sure all of you would like to see something new from the studio at this point.

The good news is that it’s not all the first-party developer has cooking.

Many of you will remember that Cory Barlog was not intimately involved with God of War Ragnarok while he worked on something new.

And just in case there was any doubt, notorious snoop Shinobi602 has confirmed on the ResetEra forums that this project is not related to the newly announced remakes.

In fact, he stressed that we could see whatever Santa Monica Studio has been cooking this year – either during a State of Play in May or potentially later in the year at The Game Awards. It sounds like a 2027 release date could be possible.

Of course, this is all rumour and speculation, and as Shinobi602 rightly points out, plans can change. But it sounds like there’s lots to look forward to from Santa Monica Studio yet.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier previously hinted that this project is “not a new IP but it might feel like one”.

Our guess? It’s a new God of War game set in a completely different pantheon, perhaps Ancient Egypt, as has been speculated upon for many years.
