Last weekend’s winners…

It was a Super Saturday for me at Newbury last weekend and my best chance Sober Glory was really impressive when winning by 27 lengths.

Before Saturday, I wasn’t actually 100 per cent sure about him. I thought he was a good horse, but not maybe a ‘proper horse’. He was very relaxed early, then he half-grabbed hold of the bit for the first two hurdles, but I managed to slow him down.

He gave me a proper feel and he handled the soft ground really well. If the ground is soft and he’s entered for the Supreme Novices Hurdle at the Festival. I’d give him a big chance. Even if the ground is good to soft, he’s very good and he should handle it.

He’s certainly improving so roll on March!

He’s the one that could potentially be overpriced in the Supreme Novices Hurdle.

I was on Tutti Quanti who bolted up in the handicap hurdle and I have to admit that I was surprised. I couldn’t believe how well he handled the ground.

I bounced him out to get a good start and I knew I was going too fast after the first hurdle into the first bend, but after that he had it his own way. We had a good, even, gallop and not many of the others got into the race.

He galloped them into the ground. He demolished them!

Going forward, soft ground is very important for Tutti Quanti. I’m not sure he’d be fast enough on decent ground for a Champion Hurdle. I’m sure he’ll be a fantastic chaser next season but I’ll leave that up to Paul Nicholls!

I’m not sure he has a whole heap of options on where to go next. There’s the Champion Hurdle maybe if the ground was soft but I’m not sure Punchestown is his track as he hangs too badly left.

Saturday Rides…

Etna Bianco ran nicely when 22 lengths fifth in the Challow Hurdle behind No Drama This End, who I rode, and he’s a nice horse. It’s a lovely ride to pick up and he’s got a big chance.

Thomas Mor is a great spare ride and he has a massive chance. He ran very well when second behind Kitzbuhel in the Kauto Star Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day. I’m delighted to be riding him and he should be there or thereabouts.

Captain Teague is a great each-way bet. There were a lot of negatives around his last run at Windsor when he was pulled up. It was a comeback from a long layoff and it was three miles on heavy ground. He’s never really properly seen out three miles. He’s got a lot of class, he’ll handle the ground and he should improve a good bit from the last run. The trip and the track suit him too.

The honest answer for Threeunderthrufive not going well last time at Ascot is he’s too high in the handicap. He won this race two years ago and he was second last year. He’s down to a mark of 147 now, but he needs to be. Maybe that’s still too high in the ratings for him, but there isn’t anything else in here that frightens me. If Threeunderthrufive puts his best foot forwards, he’ll go close.

15:35 Ascot – Pic DOrhy (Best chance)

Pic DOrhy is facing off against Jonbon in the Ascot Chase and we can definitely forgive his last run as he certainly wasn’t his best when finishing third. It wasn’t his true running so we can put a line through it.

I’m really sweet on him on Saturday. I worked him yesterday and he’s in really good form. He’s the fresh horse going into the race and he always runs a big race when fresh.

In terms of facing Jonbon [who’s owned by Harry’s future employer JP McManus] it’s just another day and another race! I would love to beat him.

I’ve never ridden Solar System before and it potentially looks like the handicapper has a hold of him now but he’s a good ride to pick up.
