Bradford Bulls

Bradford Bulls pair Jayden Okunbor and Dan Russell could be facing up to extended stints on the sidelines after picking up injuries in the loss to Hull FC.

The Bulls turned in a spirited showing at the MKM Stadium before ultimately losing 27-20 against the Black and Whites, with a late Will Pryce drop goal and a Cade Cust try proving to be the difference on the night.

However, it came at a price for Bradford with Okunbor and Russell picking up injuries. Okunbor left the field early in the game after colliding with Lewis Martin in the air, while Russell picked up a knee issue in the second half and had to be helped from the action and down the tunnel.

“They both look pretty serious,” Kurt Haggerty told the press at the MKM Stadium. “I’ll know more tomorrow. The physios are pretty concerned with both of them.

“I’m not too sure [what their injuries are]. They probably have just told me, but I’ve got that much going on, I don’t know. I think Dan’s something to do with his knee, and I think Jayden is pretty similar, actually. But I couldn’t be too sure right now.”

Asked about Ackers taking a knock, Haggerty added: “He did, but I think Andy’s okay. I think it was mostly a dead leg.”

Bradford scored three tries on the night with ex-Hull man Connor Wynne scoring two and Waqa Blake getting himself over as well on his return to Super League. And, if it wasn’t for some heroic defending from the home side they would have had at least one or two more.

The result could have swung Bradford’s way had Aidan Sezer been shown a yellow card for his high shot on Joe Mellor, which Haggerty felt would have been justified.

“In my opinion, it was 10 minutes in the bin,” he added. “If that was one of my players and they got put in the bin, I would understand why.”

On the result itself, the Bradford Bulls boss added: “I don’t want to just to be happy because we’ve come here and had a really good go against Hull FC. I want us to be frustrated.

“I want us to learn that we’ve done enough to win the game, but we’ve got to execute their moments.

“So yeah, it’s a very disappointed changing room in there. They believed they could win the game when they come here, and after the game, they still believe they could have won the game. So we’ll take a lot of positives, but I want it to sting a little bit.

“The line breaks that we made in the second half, when we got back into the cycle, I thought, just not executing off the back of the line breaks and I think that’s what cost us in the end.”
