OXFORD (4-2-3-1):

SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):

6 Roefs: Didn’t really have to make a meaningful save and just about managed to deal with Oxford’s long throws

6 Hume: Defensively comfortable back in his right-back berth, although his attacking runs were limited in number

7 Mukiele: Helped ensure Sunderland did not lose the physical battle as Oxford sent long balls forward

7 O’Nien: Seemed to thoroughly enjoy his tussle with Lankshear and made an important first-half block

6 Cirkin: Contributed to Sunderland’s clean sheet, even if his attacking threat was largely contained

6 Geertruida: Did the dirty work at the heart of midfield to ensure Lankshear was left isolated on a number of occasions

7 Diarra: Helped drive Sunderland forward from the heart of midfield and stepped up confidently to roll home his penalty

7 Talbi: Improved in the second half after an uneventful opening period and forced Ingram into a couple of good saves

8 Le Fee: Showed plenty of quality, particularly in the second half when Sunderland’s attacking improved

8 MUNDLE: The standout player on the pitch as he cut in effectively from the left – went close on a number of occasions after the break

5 Isidor: Didn’t make the most of a rare chance in the starting XI – seemed to be ambling around for much of his time on the pitch

Subs:

5 Sadiki (for Diarra, 63): Didn’t have to do a lot in his half-hour or so of action

7 Mayenda (for Isidor, 63): A bright cameo appearance – almost scored with pretty much his first touch

Jocelin (for Talbi, 81)

(not used): Ellborg (gk), Jen Jones, Whittaker, Rigg, Angulo, Brobbey.

Man Of The Match: ROMAINE MUNDLE – Was Sunderland’s brightest attacker as he repeatedly ran at the Oxford defence.
