Baywatch is getting another reboot, almost 10 years after the Baywatch film starring The Rock and Zac Efron, and its first cast member has just been confirmed. Deadline reports that Arrow and Suits LA star Stephen Amell has been cast as Hobie Buchannon, a classic character who was the son of David Hasselhoff’s Mitch in the original show.

Brandon Call played the role in the pilot and first season, while Jeremy Jackson took over the next nine seasons and reunion TV movie.

In this new version, Hobie is a Baywatch Captain who tries to live up to the legacy of his father Mitch (who’s seemingly yet to be cast for the reboot). A huge wrench is thrown into his life when a daughter he never knew he had turns up on his doorstep. She wants to become a lifeguard just like him, but will he want to bond with her?

“From the first conversation, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy,” showrunner Matt Nix said.

“He’s the kind of lead who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight, and still make it feel fun. We’re so excited to get started.”

US network Fox has given the show a 12-episode season so far and is promising to update the show while still maintaining its balance of life or death scenarios, soapy relationship drama and its attractive cast members wearing very bright red swimsuits (and running in slow motion, we assume).

The original run of Baywatch famously featured multiple recognisable faces, including Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.

Multiple other celebs made guest appearances too, with Carrie-Anne Moss, Bryan Cranston, Mila Kunis, and Michelle Williams all popping up in the early days of their careers, with it reportedly being Williams’ first on-screen credit.

The new Baywatch does not currently have a release date.
