Hollyoaks’ John Paul McQueen says a final farewell to the village next week, as he heads off to start a new life with his son Matthew Jesus. Determined to build a stronger relationship with his estranged son after the harrowing experience of being on police lockdown in the McQueen house, John Paul prepares to leave the village for pastures new.
However, troubled by the thought of leaving his family behind for good, John Paul is unable to bear telling them face-to-face and writes them heartfelt letters instead…
“The idea of saying goodbye to his family is too painful for John Paul, especially since he pictured how differently his life would’ve played out if his late sisters had lived,” says our Hollyoaks insider.
“He knows that he won’t be returning to the village as he wants to devote everything into bonding with his son, so he decides to write down what he wants to say instead. However, it’s not long before the savvy McQueens realise what John Paul is trying to do…”

Catching on that John Paul plans to leave without saying a proper goodbye, the whole family desperately try to track him down before he jets off. Finding him at the rehab clinic having a heart-to-heart with Mercedes, the McQueen clan bid an emotional goodbye to him as he departs for his new life.
“John Paul and Mercedes have always been close siblings, so it’s no surprise that he goes to talk to her while she’s in recovery,” explains our source. “When Myra, Goldie, Prince and Theresa arrive, it’s a proper McQueen family send off as they all tearfully embrace.
“John Paul has made some amazing memories in the village, but after all that’s happened in the past year, he’s ready to close this chapter.”

Following her chat with John Paul, Mercedes completes her final therapy session, waves goodbye to her new pal Nikki and returns home to her thrilled family, having conquered her pill addiction.
As one member of the famous family leaves Hollyoaks behind forever, and another returns for more drama, is a McQueen ever truly gone from the village for good?
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
