Human remains found in remote woodland six months ago have now been identified. The Chronicle reported how the grim discovery was made in East Fleetham, near Beadnell, Northumberland, in August.

Northumbria Police launched an investigation and now the force has confirmed the death is not thought to be suspicious. The remains have been identified and the man’s next of kin has been informed, police said.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “In August last year, we received a report that human remains had been found in a wooded area in East Fleetham near Beadnell. Our investigation has since concluded and found there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

“The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and a report has been referred to the coroner.”

Officers were at the scene for several days following the discovery, on the night of August 3.
