Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water says the issue is affecting properties in Crossgates, Llandegley, Llanyre and other surroundings areas around Llandrindod Wells.

A red alert is in force on the Welsh Water website, which shows that an area from Penybont in the south is being affected, up to Llaithddu in the north.

One local resident reported that there have been at least least three occasions in the last week where there has either been low pressure or no water, and that today (Monday, February 16) is his second day without any water at all.

Welsh Water says repairs are underway and that it expects affected properties to have their water restored by 11.45am on Monday.

“We’re aware of a burst on our network which is affecting the water supply to this area,” said Welsh Water in a statement on the issue.

“Until the pipe is fixed, you may experience low pressure or no water.

“We expect all supplies to be fully restored later this morning. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

A resident who lives in Llanbister said the issues is affecting “a huge area”.

“On at least three occasions in the last week there has either been low pressure or no water at all,” he said.

“Today (Monday) is the second in a row with no water. Low pressure probably affects the higher altitudes more, for example Llanbister, where I am.

“They say they expect to restore it later today but we’ve had similar notifications before so it must be a fairly significant problem.”

Stages of leaks and bursts

Welsh Water says there are five main stages we follow when repairing leaks and bursts.

Stage 1 – Investigation. We review the customer impact, risk and health and safety concerns.

Stage 2 – Fault located. Repair planning, working with 3rd parties, road closures, ordering of specialist equipment or fittings.

Stage 3 – Repair. Ensuring the safety of our teams and the public while we repair the leak.

Stage 4 – Restoring / Reinstatement. Returning the water network to normal and making good any surfaces.

Stage 5 – Final update.

Running your cold kitchen tap will help to clear any discolouration in your supply. Further updates will be provided here when we have more information.
