Silent Witness fans are convinced the BBC has made a second episode swap after one set of episodes were moved. The BBC were expected to debut the two-part story called The Enemy Within last week.
However, due to a real life attack in Birmingham which had similarities to the plot, the BBC switched the episodes to series 29’s fifth and six episode, called Creekwood, which aired in its place.
The BBC said in a statement: “Due to the attack in Birmingham over the weekend, this week’s episodes of Silent Witness will not transmit as planned and instead they have been replaced with two episodes from later on in the series.”
On Saturday night, two teenagers were attacked with a machete outside a shop and rushed to hospital. A 14-year-old suffered life-altering injuries while a 15-year-old was punched.

However, now fans of the BBC show are convinced the original order has been adjusted once again. Some believe that The Enemy Within should have been the first two episodes set to air, rather than the third and fourth suggested.
“Also, this was very clearly meant to be the first episode of this series. I understand why last weeks was the wrong way around but this one doesn’t make sense to have been delayed. #SilentWitness,” one eagle eye fan noted.
A second replied: “Agree, there were so many things that made it feel like the opening of the series.” A third penned: “That’s what I thought! It’s definitely weird to switch the running order around twice!” Fans also claimed that TV listings had the BBC announce The Enemy Within was first and second and not what actually aired, The Disappearance of Alice Hill.
For the new series, the team headed to Birmingham after a job change. The team – led by Nikki – had previously fronted the Lyell Centre, but now they are at The Sir William Bowman Centre of Excellence.
Speaking about the new setting, Emilia – who plays Dr Nikki Alexander – said: “It’s a really beautiful city. There are some incredible industrial buildings where the history of Birmingham feels very present. That was as exciting to discover as the beautiful countryside, which is close to Birmingham, which we were also fortunate to film in. I think it gives the series a different aesthetic feel.”

David, who plays Jack Hodgson, described it as the perfect new home for the BBC show.
“The set-up happened at the end of the previous series. It’s woven into the story nicely – the team is adapting to new surroundings, new faces, and a slightly different pace of life. It’s a proper reset, but of course, being Silent Witness we don’t exactly get a quiet start,” he explained of the team’s move to the Midlands.
“The people were brilliant, really welcoming and genuinely excited that we were there filming in their city. Birmingham has this mix of grit and heart that suits the show down to the ground. Plus, the food was great. I might’ve finished filming a few pounds heavier.”
Also starring in the BBC drama is Fran Mills, who plays Kit Brooks, and Maggie Steed, who stars as the head of the team – Professor Harriet Maven. The BBC series moved to Birmingham after Nikki was headhunted for a new job in the Midlands.
