Tomas Cvancara wants to leave the Celtic board with no option but to sign him permanently.
The Czech front man is on loan at the Premiership champions from Borussia Monchengladbach until the end of the season and the Hoops hold a £7million option to make the deal permanent.
The Parkhead powerbrokers have been under fire from fed up fans all season, who have had enough of underwhelming recruitment despite the club sitting on piles of cash.
Fellow January additions Junior Adamu and Joel Mvuka haven’t exactly hit the ground running, but Cvancara has looked a useful addition, with one goal and two assists in his five appearances so far.
It will take a lot more of the same to justify dropping a significant fee to extend his stay in Glasgow, but he’s determined to prove his worth to club chiefs between now and May with Celts locked in a three-way fight to retain their title.
“I want to prove myself and prove why I came,” the 25-year-old told the Celtic FC Podcast. “Maybe, if I’m going to be good enough, show the board and everyone that they have to sign me for the future. This is my goal. I will just try to do my best.”
A return to the international fold with the Czech Republic would be welcome, but Cvancara is putting that on the back burner as he pours all his energy into convincing Celtic he’s the man to lead the line longer term.
“It would be an honour again, but to be honest, this is not my goal in the future,” he admitted. “I would say that I want more focus on the club, that I want to prove that I am good enough, that I deserve to be here, that I want to score goals, make assists, and help the team.
“This is, for me, the closest steps in my career, and if they call me up, they call me up, if they didn’t, they didn’t, but I want to prove that I am good enough to be in Celtic.”
